Water is a liquid that is necessary for our survival. Not only is about 60% of the human body made up of water, but about 71% of the earth's surface is covered in it. As a result water is often associated with something that is essential for life. Interestingly, the Bible associates water with the Word of God (also essential for spiritual life) in Ephesians 5:26 by saying we are washed by the water of the Word.
