I found myself at a little café that was quite busy. I was going to meet a friend of mine for a coffee chat, so I found a small table near the entrance. The décor was a deep blue in this entrance part of the cafe. I pulled out some things from my book bag to look at while I waited for my friend to arrive.
The café owner came to me with a big smile on his face. I immediately thought that he was asking me to leave so that someone else could have a seat at the table. “O no,” he said. “Why don’t you come into the café and find a place to sit?”
I was puzzled because I thought I was already there. He replied, “Look! You’re sitting in the bank lobby.” What I didn’t realize is that the bank, which was closed at that time of day, was right next to the little café. I was actually seated at a small table in the bank lobby.
So I got up and walked cautiously into the café. It was still quite busy but there was one booth that was open. It was perfectly situated for a nice conversation with my friend.
The café was brightly lit and cheery with light yellow walls, reminding me a little bit of a southwestern decor. What I remember was the amazing bakery case! The different variety of cakes looked delicious! Each one had several slices waiting to be plated. I also saw pastries, rolls and other yummy-looking baked goods. I wondered what I could eat since I was avoiding sugar…but I thought I might allow myself a special treat this time.
My friend arrived, and I was so excited to look at the bakery case with her, especially since I planned to treat her. I asked her if she would like some delicious cake!
I especially remember the warmth and kindness of the café owner. He had light brown hair with a beard, mustache and very big smile. He stood behind the counter, helped to serve food and also worked at the cash register. He loved to make people feel welcome in his café.
